Putting Sheffield on the map for UK Tech Week

Sheffield Digital and Ampere.Events are joining forces to highlight Sheffield’s thriving start-up scene during the first UK Tech Week in April.

UK Tech Week is a new initiative that aims to shine a spotlight on the tech innovation, expertise and talent that exists across the nation and to showcase the vibrant technological ecosystem that spans the UK.

Partnering with a number of established tech events, festivals and organisations, UK Tech Week will launch on Monday 22nd April followed by a 3-day collaborative celebration of tech all around the UK.

Between 23rd and 25th of April 2024, the numerous tech clusters all around the country will be hosting a wide variety of tech events under the UK Tech Week umbrella, which will provide a platform for promoting these events and the regional groups to a wider national audience.

Spotlight on Start-Ups

Even though it’s pretty short notice, we wanted to make sure that Sheffield and South Yorkshire were properly included, so Sheffield Digital and Ampere.Events are combining our resources – and we need you to get involved too.

We want to pay special attention to the amazing people, businesses and gatherings that make up our region’s tech start-up scene. There have been so many success stories recently and this feels like a great opportunity to make sure that the rest of the country knows that Sheffield and South Yorkshire are fast becoming a powerhouse of startup activity.

Founded by local tech entrepreneur Peter Hopton, Ampere is a founder-focused events and acceleration organisation based in South Yorkshire, running frequent ‘by founders, for founders’ events. Ampere is committed to empowering community, collaboration and growth to strengthen our entrepreneurial ecosystem and assist founders to achieve excellence. Its mission is to raise the ambition ceiling of our region by establishing a network which sparks on our culture of sharing and collaborating, bringing together founders and entrepreneurs to collectively share experiences, learn from failures and celebrate successes.

How to get involved

Ampere is already planning some events on 23rd April, plus one of their famous parties to wrap things up on the 25th. That leaves plenty of time free on the 24th and 25th for anyone who would like to run something under the UK Tech Week banner. We’ve already had offers of free event space so, if you have an idea for something you’d like to do, please get in touch with Nick Dytczak Midworth at Ampere.

Events will be added to Ampere’s event calendar and Sheffield Digital’s event calendar, and we’ll keep you posted through our social feeds and the Sheffield Digital newsletter. All the events will also go on the UK Tech Week event calendar, to make sure the rest of the country can see what’s happening here.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Digital will be working on ideas to create content that really highlights the people and businesses that are setting the regional start-up scene alight. If you have a story to tell, even if you think we already know about you, please get in touch with Mel Kanarek so that we can make sure you are included.

To sign up to the Ampere closing party on April 25th or one of the two events they are running on April 23rd go to https://ampere.events/events/.

We’ll be publishing more information as the plans for UK Tech Week develop, so please look out for our updates.
