Sheffield Digital is an important player in the city’s tech and innovation ecosystem. As we enter our second decade, we want to make some influential and exciting additions to our Board of Directors. We’ve assessed our existing skillset and identified what gaps need to be filled to help us meet our ambitions. Take a look at the information below and if you think you fit the bill, we’d love to hear from you.
A bit about us
As the trade association for the tech and digital sector in Sheffield, we are focussed on connecting, representing and promoting our members and the wider sector.
We’ve been operating over 11 years, with a loyal membership allowing us to deliver a range of events, services and influencing policy. The landscape is so much richer than it was when we started back in 2015, and we want to continue to push forwards to ensure the city supports the growth of the businesses we work with.
Sheffield Digital doesn’t employ any full-time staff. We’re a small but dedicated team of volunteer directors and freelance contractors who work hard and achieve amazing things with the capacity they have.
Now, we are looking ahead to how we ensure that Sheffield Digital continues to develop as a sustainable, vital focal point for the people and businesses who make up our city’s tech industry. We are therefore seeking 4 new non-exec directors to join our board over the next few months.
The opportunity
By looking closely at the skills and experience we already have on the board, and mapping out where we want to be, we have highlighted key attributes that will enrich our collective skillset, add value to the organisation, and help us get there.
We’re looking for people who meet one or more of these criteria:
Own, operate or have recently exited a digital business in Sheffield.
This might have been a digital agency, tech consultancy or a venture backed business. Your current or recent experience of what it’s like to run a business in Sheffield’s tech ecosystem will be vital to ensure we design our offer to maximise value to our members.
Have commercial partnerships or income generation experience.
We need someone who can think strategically about sponsors, partners and longer term sustainable income models. You might have corporate connections, previous experience of running an ecosystem business, and definitely have strong financial acumen.
Are experienced in membership and community.
As a member organisation this is fundamental to how we operate. You might have run a business network in the past, or may even run one of the numerous meetups that happen in Sheffield. You’ll be someone who understands the importance of community and can challenge our assumptions and test our value to members.
Have commercial communication experience.
Our biggest impact comes through our messaging, amplification of the sector, and the approach to policymakers. You might understand what messaging cuts through to the right audience, and be able to support our freelancers in creating and delivering an agile communications strategy.
Sound like you?
