A Principal Infrastructure Engineer is an accomplished technical leader. They develop the engineering road-maps for technologies and services in their area of responsibility, ensuring relevance and alignment with architectural road-maps to ensure the organisation derives maximum value from investment in technologies. They are key stakeholders for defining engineering best practice within the Home Office and inspire others to follow this.
You may own the operational relationships with suppliers ensuring services and products are delivered and aligned to industry best practice, regulatory and contractual requirements.
👀 What will you be doing? 👀
You will lead and direct infrastructure teams in building, managing, supporting and maintaining solutions according to departmental policy and strategy. You will work with technical architects to ensure there is continuous improvement to the service catalogue, future designs and service operability.
You will lead on overall management activities such as workforce planning, budgeting, technology road-maps, projects and tasks.

- Azure Virtual Desktop
- Azure Policy and Governance
- Azure PaaS (Azure App service, Azure SQL)
- Azure Networking
- Azure Virtual Machines
- Azure Kubernetes Service

🚀 Your skills for this role 🚀
As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will have experience of:
- Manage and administer the Microsoft Azure environment, including provisioning, configuration, performance monitoring, policy and financial governance and security.
- Design, develop and implement efficient, highly available, multi-region solutions within Microsoft Azure.
- Develop infrastructure as code (IaC) leveraging cloud native tooling to ensure automated and consistent platform deployments.
- Support cloud adoption of applications as they are being transformed and/or modernised.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to address and resolve technical escalations.
- Advising on future technology changes and innovations and define best practice for network improvements and information security.
- Key engineering principles and standards, and the ability to inspire others to follow these.
- Ensuring all solutions are robust, resilient and appropriately implemented, secured, tested and documented.
