Make It Digital – trainees seek placements

Five young people are looking for some real-life digital experience.

Following on from an earlier post about this programme, we now have details of five trainees who are looking for placements in Sheffield/Rotherham. We’ve anonymised the information but you can find out more about the candidates and what’s involved in offering a placement by contacting Christopher Johnson at Capita.

Here are the candidates’ profiles:

D:

“I’m interested in web design. I completed a training course on web design and film some years ago and I also did a BTEC level 2 in media, which covered more web design, animation and photography. As I haven’t practised in graphic design for a while, I did the Make It Digital course to refresh my skills and reignite my passion for all things digital. For my placement, I’d love to get some more exposure to graphic and web design in a professional capacity.

“I love gaming and I’ve built my own gaming PC from scratch. In 5 years time, I’d like to be working for a gaming company as a designer, tester or programmer.”

J:

“I’m particularly interested in Photoshop and graphic design – I enjoy the team work element of design and listening to people’s ideas in order to create the overall vision of the product. I’m a creative person and I like to start a project from the initial stages and see it come to life. My ideal placement would be an organisation that would allow me to express my creativity and vision.

“In 5 years time, I’d like to be involved in designing logos and advertising campaigns for companies.”

K:

“I’m interested in the photography side of digital. I studied art at school and college and got up to Level 3 in art and design (extended diploma) but left that to get more hands on experience. I enjoy capturing moments and I do a lot of photography in my spare time – my work has been displayed in the Tate, V&A and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

“My ideal career would be in photo journalism – I enjoy capturing the best elements of an object or person.”

N:

“I’m interested in using digital tools to create graphics, videos, adverts, wallpapers and Facebook banners. I like to be creative and enjoy the planning process and seeing my work progress from idea stage to completion. In my spare time, I enjoy working on my laptop to create graphics and I have a Behance page.

“I would like to go to University and study for a BA in graphic design. My ideal job would be a senior graphic designer for a reputable organisation.”

R:

“I enjoy the mechanical and software side of digital media, particularly coding and networking. I enjoy being precise and methodical and understanding why things happen in the order they should. I’d like to work towards a role in games design and testing and debugging and I’d like to understand how to build platforms and different gaming engines.”
