TeenTech South Yorkshire returns to Doncaster Racecourse for the fourth time on March 3rd 2016. The brainchild of Maggie Philbin (ex-Tomorrow’s World TV presenter), TeenTech events are an inspirational way to get involved and make a difference in young people’s future career choices in science, engineering and technology.
Up to 300 students, aged 12-13, from multiple secondary schools across the area are taken out of school for a day to learn about the career opportunities available to them if they select STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) subjects for their GCSEs and A levels.
Schools who attend the event are encouraged to enter the TeenTech Awards. Last year, two schools not only made it through to the final at The Royal Society but won and were invited to Buckingham Palace.
There are 11 schools still seeking sponsorship – the financial commitment is £300 per table and sponsors are encouraged to supply an ‘ambassador’ from their company for the day who has a practical knowledge of STEM.
The schools still seeking support are:
- Yewlands Academy (Sheffield)
- Sheffield High School (Sheffield)
- Ecclesfield School (Sheffield)
- Clifton Community School (Rotherham)
- Aston Academy (Rotherham)
- Thryberg Academy (Rotherham)
- Wingfield Academy (Rotherham)
- Wales High School (Rotherham)
- Netherwood ALC – 2 teams (Barnsley)
- Wakefield Girls High School (Wakefield)
- Horbury Academy (Wakefield)
If you would like to get involved and/or sponsor a table, there is more information on the TeenTech website.
