Make It Digital – Round 2

Update on the Make It Digital programme and call for employers to get involved in the second running.

As I outlined in a post last year, Capita Talent Partnerships are delivering the BBC’s Make It Digital traineeship programme in Sheffield and Rotherham. The initiative is designed to provide basic workplace-ready digital skills to young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who aren’t already in employment or education, and get them inspired with coding and digital tech.

The first programme finished before Christmas, and resulted in several students finding placements with local firms. Capita TP’s Employer Engagement Manager Chris Johnson has told us that:

“Two local companies led the way by providing Placements for some of our candidates with fantastic results, please see the below link to Jamie King’s blog post around his experience with G2G3 Digital which led him into receiving a 3 month contract as an Ops & IT Helpdesk Support team member:

Another of our candidates is currently on placement with Irwin Mitchell’s HO in Sheffield where he is working with the Social Media team and will be producing a video of his experience to help inspire others.”

The second round of the initiative kicked off on the 18th of this month, and again there are opportunities for local firms to take trainees on 100 hours of work experience at the end of the course.

UPDATE: We’ve received details of four trainees who are now looking for placements, to start at the end of February and run through March. They are interested in games design, graphic and 3D design, and web design and media. If you would like to help, please get in touch with Chris directly at: .
